When the final hand was dealt in the 2013 Borgata Spring Poker Open Championship Event the cards and chips went to Bobby Oboodi. Oboodi outlasted a 502-player field over four days of play to earn his second Borgata championship event win.
Oboodi bested Mike Gagliano, the Day 4 chipleader, in the heads-up match for $300,633 and the championship trophy. Gagliano held the chiplead when the heads-up match began, having eliminated Kenny Nguyen as the third place finisher, but Oboodi doubled through when his pocket tens cracked Gagliano's pocket Aces and the tournament came to an end soon after.
The final hand began when Gagliano min-raised from the small blind and Oboodi three-bet to 1.7 million out of the big blind. Gagliano announced he was all-in for about 2.6 million and Oboodi called. Gagliano held K♠Q♠ and Oboodi turned up A♠7♠. The board ran out A♥8♦8♥K♦5♥ and Oboodi took the tournament.
Ketan Pandya was the first to be eliminated from the ten-handed final table. Pandya shipped all-in pre-flop with Q♥Q♦ for about 900,000 and Gagliano called with A♦K♥. The dealer fanned 8♠3♦2♦8♦7♦ to give both players the Diamond-Flush but Gagliano's Ace trumped Pandya's Queen.
After nursing and extremely short stack for the entire day Ray Shackleford was next to go when he made his move for his tournament life with his last 170,000. In the end, Shackelford's Ace-Jack was bested by Nguyen's Jack-Ten when a Ten opened up on the turn to give Nguyen a pair of Tens that held on the river.
Jordan Siegel soon followed Shackelford to the rail when he pushed all-in for about 400,000 from middle position and Henry Lu called from the big blind. Siegel showed A♦9♦, Lu flipped over A♠10♦ and Lu's hand held when the board completed.
After Siegel's exit, Lu's tournament came to an end when he tangled with Andy Philachack. Lu raised to 60,000 on the button and Philachack made it 230,000 to go. Lu announced he was all-in for his last 800,000 and Philachack called. Lu turned over A♥10♦ and Philachack revealed 5♠5♥. Lu failed to catch his needed cards on a K♦2♣9♣6♦4♣ board and he made his exit.
Orson Young had taken the chiplead not long after the official final table began but his momentum ran out when the table was six handed. Young was eliminated when Gagliano raised to 90,000 from under the gun and Young three-bet to 240,000. Gagliano four-bet to 590,000, Young shipped all-in for about 2.1 million and Gagliano snap-called. Young tabled K♦K♠ and Gagliano showed A♣A♦. The board ran out 6♣6♥5♥Q♠7♦ and Gagliano's Aces held.
After Young, Vinny Pahuja's tournament ended when he shipped all-in for 455,000 from the small blind over Oboodi's 80,000 open from the button. Pahuja had been dealt 8♠8♦ and Oboodi called with A♠A♦. Pahuja's hand never improved as the board ran out Q♦5♥4♣6♦2♣.
Philachack's demise came when Gagliano raised to 115,000 from the button. Philachack called from the big blind and the flop was dealt 10♦5♣3♠. Both players checked to see the 9♥ on the turn and Philachack bet 225,000. Gagliano added an additional 580,000 to go and Philachack moved all-in. Gagliano called and showed 10♠9♦ and Philachack showed 9♠5♠. The river was 7♠ and Philachack's tournament came to an end.
Nguyen followed not long after when Oboodi raised to 100,000 from the button and Gagliano three-bet to 325,000 from the small blind. Nguyen four-bet to 1,025,000 from the big blind and Gagliano five-bet all-in for about 7 million. The shove sent Nguyen went into the tank for 18 minutes.
"I haven't been all-in once in this tournament," Nguyen said. "This hand is the same hand I busted out of Jacksonville (World Poker Tour) with."
After a long time in the tank and much self-debate, Nguyen ultimately called and tabled A♣Q♣ while Gagliano showed K♥K♠.The flop was K♦10♥10♦ to give Gagliano a boat and leaving Nguyen drawing to runner-runner Aces. But the K♣ on the turn gave Gagliano Quad-Kings and left Nguyen drawing dead. The river was the meaningless 8♠ and Nguyen was eliminated.
